The 4-1-1

Annata Wine Bar serves up culture in Hammonton

When Annata Wine Bar opened its doors back in August 2008, owner Phil Brunozzi, Jr., saw that Hammonton was on the cusp of becoming a South Jersey hotspot - and every hotspot needs some culture.

"Downtown Hammonton has really developed into a destination over the past few years," Brunozzi, Jr. begins. "We have received so much support for our business, and we appreciate all of our guests who come and spend time with us at Annata - they are the reason for Hammonton's success."

It takes great knowledge and skill to open a successful wine bar, and Brunozzi, Jr. has it down pat. Even his servers can school you.

"Our servers and bartenders really enjoy interacting with our guests and recommending new wines for them to taste," he says. "They especially enjoy pairing wines with dishes on the menu to heighten the dining experience. We also have special bottles stored away that don't always make it onto the wine list, so be sure to ask your server if there is 'anything else' they can recommend."

Musical Interludes:

Thursdays: Live jazz, 7 p.m.

Fridays: Acoustic music, 7 p.m.

Coming Up:

New Year's Eve is always a big celebration at Annata, with a DJ, dinner buffet and champagne toast.

Annata features a monthly night of music with acts such as It's A Sinatra Thing or Don't Call Me Francis.

Be Our Guest:

The Wine is Fine: With more than 160 wines from around the world, "We put a great deal of time and effort into making our wine list extensive, yet affordable," Brunozzi Jr says. "We work very close with the distributors to make sure the wine list is always fresh and complements the food we pair it with."

Different Ways To Taste: "We invested in a special wine preservation system that allows us to offer more than 150 wines by the glass to our guests," Brunozzi, Jr. says. "They range in price from $6-$40 per glass, and it gives people the opportunity to try a wine they may not otherwise be able to. We also feature wine flights for guests who want to try a variety."

Italian Fan-Fare: Brunozzi, Jr. describes the cuisine as "Italian-inspired tapas." The eggplant tower - lightly fried eggplant layered with marinara sauce, ricotta and mozzarella cheeses - was featured on NBC.

Fun Fact: Annata Wine Bar won Wine Spectator Magazine's "2010 Award of Excellence."
