Five things you need to know about Boardwalk Beer Garden
1 It's all in the name. If you're walking the Boardwalk and want to relax in the sun with a brew, Boardwalk Beer Garden has 20 beers to choose from and a great location in the middle of all the action. The bar opened in April 2011 after the people at AC Nightlife chose to take what was formerly Dawn lounge connected to Dusk nightclub, put up a wall and create a whole other venue that's only accessible from the Boardwalk. The new bar is a much more low-key operation that's most busy when the nightclub's closed, replacing high heels and suit jackets with flip-flops and bathing suits.
2 Magic Hat #9, Victory Hop Devil, Flying Fish Extra Pale Ale, Blue Point Hoptical Illusion, Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, Paulaner Hefe-Weissbier, Harpoon IPA and Stoudts American Pale Ale. If you don't know what those are, then you need to get here and try them. Yes, they have the American standards of Budweiser, Bud Light and Miller Lite, and the other popular imports of Guinness, Heineken, Corona and Stella Artois, but you very well may find a new favorite from their delicious craft beer selections.
3 This isn't just a place for fair weather fun. In fact, when it rains, they pour discounted drinks indoors. The inside section of the bar, with rich dark woods and HD flatscreen TVs, has all the right elements of an old world pub mixed with an upscale, modern drinking establishment that make the place as good as any for getting out of the house on a dreary day to toasting some suds in a social environment. Close access to the Boardwalk entrance of Caesars also means limited outdoor exposure to get there.
4 This is prime people-watching territory. Atlantic City is a true melting pot of cultures, and you will undoubtedly see some crazy characters walk by on any given day. Who needs a TV when an entire real-life sitcom can unfold right before your eyes? The drinking game possibilities are endless. And if you go and don't see what I'm talking about, then you might be who I'm talking about.
5 You don't just have to listen to the chorus of seagulls. AC Nightlife plans to bring in bands and DJs during the summer, and judging by the talent they bring to Dusk and their other venue, 21 Bar, it will be worth checking out. Make sure to check event listings in At The Shore so you can make plans to check this place out.
Heard on a Saturday afternoon: Just the sounds of the ocean breeze, dozens of individual conversations of people walking by and people cheering on the Phillies inside.
Scene at 2 p.m.: The outdoor picnic tables are packed with groups of guys in their mid-20s to late 40s, as well as a couple of young women with bags apparently from shops in The Pier nearby. Some people relax in the sun, chilling out on a spontaneous stopover along their trip. Others get rowdy, talk loudly and excitedly, making their tables look more like parties of their own. Inside, a handful of people watch baseball away from the heat.
