Prohibition: 5 things you need to know

1 Prohibition debuted with a splash, and in the few short months the nightclub has been open it has attracted many to its party scene. Located on the 13th Floor of the Ocean Tower inside the newly renovated Resorts Casino Hotel, Prohibition is the first gay nightclub in an Atlantic City casino. While the spot is geared toward the LGBT community, there also are straight patrons who frequent the club.

2 Dennis Gomes is known for his creative casino marketing, so when he took the helm of Resorts he hired Joel Ballesteros as the gaming resort's first director of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender marketing. Ballesteros has worked with the casino to establish a full-time venue for the LGBT community. Eventually, Ballesteros would like to expand the club as the response has been very positive. "People are just there to have a good time and don't really care who's gay, who's straight, who's young, old, black, white. None of that really matters when you come to Prohibition - everyone's here to just have a good time," he says.

3 Resorts was recently renovated, reflecting a 1920s Prohibition Era-inspired theme, which included the addition of Prohibition. "People that come in absolutely love being in the club because it's just a great atmosphere," Ballesteros says. "It sort of has the feel of a celebration when you come into the club." Previously, the space was used as a players' lounge. Inside the new venue there are large faux palm trees that line the intimate dance floor, which is the center of attention. Flashing lights, couches and chairs are sprinkled throughout the space, with a smoking lounge on the outside balcony accessible right off of the club.

4 The celebratory atmosphere at Prohibition embodies the roaring '20s and features various DJs spinning a variety of hits from the '70s, '80s, '90s and today. The club opens at 6 p.m. as a music lounge featuring videos and concerts on the large flat-screen TV's. At 10 p.m. the space switches over to a dance club with DJs. Dancers up on platforms add to the vivacious vibe while contemporary music videos are played on the TVs in-between the DJ sets.

5 Prohibition welcomes patrons, parties, and audience members from The Screening Room, a mini theatre on the same floor. Currently, "Believe: Divas in a Man's World" is showing in the Screening Room and after the show, guests can conveniently hit up the club to enjoy drinks and entertainment. Behind the bar, Prohibition features their "mixologists" serving up cool drinks in a hot setting. Fan favorites include the Prohibition signature drink and the 1923 Old Fashioned.

The Scene

Music: Hits from the '70s, '80s, '90s and today can be heard in the club starting at 10 p.m. Beforehand, the space serves as a music lounge offering drinks in a relaxed setting as music concerts are played in full along with music videos on the large flat screen TV's from all of the decades. Everything from Lady Gaga to Queen to Michael Jackson and Prince can be heard on any given night.

Vibe: A lounge atmosphere where patrons come to party the night away. Tables, chairs and couches are available throughout the club. Ballesteros says everyone is welcomed at Prohibition, "We are a gay club, but we are open to anyone and then I don't want people to not come because it's a gay club and vice versa and I think the club is for everyone. It's such a great environment and people have such a good time that everyone should be able to enjoy it."
