Band Spotlight: Formerly Known As at Ri-Ra

Formerly Known As - or maybe you just know the band as FKA - has been playing the southern New Jersey circuit for three years. And although its members come from scattered parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the southern New Jersey shore is one of FKA's favorite places to be.

"The southern New Jersey nightlife scene has been nothing but fantastic to us," says Rich Brown, frontman and lead vocalist. "Apart from the shore towns, we try to get to the other areas of southern New Jersey that have been stepping up their entertainment, as well as their beer selections. For us, if there's good beer and a good band, that's a good place to be."

Tasty libations aside, it takes more than that to make a strong cover band. The members of FKA make sure to never hide what they know about music and making people happy.

"We demonstrate a thorough knowledge of all the usual greats, along with many surprises that you won't hear from any other band on the scene," Brown says. "We always want to keep our fans excited for what might be coming up next."

Roster: Rich Brown, lead vocals; Dan "Camden" O'Neil, bass, vocals; Brad "B-Rad" Heimbach, lead guitar, vocals; Charlie Heim, drums, vocals; Vince Federici, guitar, vocals.

Keeping The Party Alive: "We are best described as a roadhouse cover band," Brown says. "We mix our gritty rock sound with just about every other genre, from R&B, to hip-hop, to Latin. We always encourage sing-alongs, and because our show is constantly energetic."

Where To Find FKA: Brown says FKA's favorite places to perform include Ri-Ra Irish Pub inside the Quarter at Tropicana Casino Resort, the House of Blues Backstage Lounge inside the Showboat Casino-Hotel, Bally's Atlantic City's Wild Wild West and the Coconut Cove in Wildwood.

Musical Influences: FKA's musical influences truly run the gamut, from the Beatles to Rush, Sublime to The Roots.

Songs To Expect: When you're at an FKA show, the only thing to expect is the unexpected. Brown says some of the band's favorites tunes to play include "Africa" by Toto, "Little Lion Man" by Mumford & Sons, and "Rolling In The Deep" by Adele.
